DRIVING In Yosemite NATIONAL Park

YOU CAN DRIVE ANYWHERE INSIDE YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK
  There is no
gas inside Yosemite NATIONAL Park.
  Fill your vehicle in

•  Sonora, California via State Hwy 49 on the west side of the park

•  Lee Vining, California on U.S. Hwy 395 on the east side of the park

•  Fresno, California on U.S. Hwy 99  on the south side of the park

The northwest entrance to Yosemite National Park (via State Highway 120) is just one hour from Sonora, California.  Leaving Sonora you will climb from an elevation of 1,800 feet to over 8,000 feet and then descend into Yosemite Valley at an elevation of approximately 4,000 feet.

In the winter season when the snow starts to fly around the first of October, State Highway 120 and all of the roads leading into
Yosemite National Park may be closed due to inclement weather and snowy road conditions.  The danger of avalanche makes driving over Tioga Pass impossible.

     The
Tioga Pass Road (State Highway 120) traverses Yosemite National Park and connects to U.S. Highway 395 on the eastern side of California.  Typically, this road is closed for the winter months beginning with the first snows of the season in early October and remains closed until the end of May or the first part of June.
